George II Silver Covered Tureen Circa 1750s
This fine, bombe-shaped, oval tureen with gadrooned borders and two loop twist handles standing on four ball and scroll supports is by London silversmith George Methuen and from the mid-18th century. The cover has a bombe pomegranate finial. The length of the tureen is approximately 17 inches. It comes along with a later Victorian, silver liner by Robert Hennel which weighs 20 ozt. The tureen without the liner weighs 101.3 ozt. Bearing hallmarks on the tureen and the liner as shown.
