Black, Starr & Frost Sterling Silver Trumpet Vase
Black, Starr & Frost sterling silver trumpet vase, beautifully adorned with geometric and floral motifs, from the late 19th or early 20th century. It measures 20'' in height by 9'' in diameter at the top, weighs 67.2 troy ounces, and bears hallmarks as shown.
The oldest continuously operating jewelry firm in the United States, Black, Starr & Frost also produced objects in silver. Already in 1860, the company received an order for more than $12,000 of jewelry and silverware from Edward, Prince of Wales. In 1929, Black, Starr & Frost merged with Gorham Corporation, and was renamed Black, Starr, Frost-Gorham. Some of their pieces are present in the permanent collection of the New York Historical Society.
