Roger Williams was a Providence-based silversmith, which served as successors to Howard. Howard & Company was located at 264 Fifth Avenue in New York and were jewelers and silversmiths. Howard & Co. made outstanding silver and had shops in New York, Newport, London and Paris during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Owner J.P. Howard had a deep passion for excellent design and quality execution. In 1903 Roger Williams Silver Co was one of the firms forming Mt. Vernon Company Silversmiths Inc. Mount Vernon Co was formed in 1913 through the merging Hayes & McFarland, The Mauser Mfg Company, and Roger Williams Silver Company. It was bought by Gorham in 1920 and continued to produce silver under the Mount Vernon name until 1923.
